History

SouthGate Church began it's ministry in Fort Collins in 1976 under a different name, Fort Collins Christian Center. At that time, the church was the vision and mission of a church planting team from Anchorage Alaska. The "Christian Center" began on 516 Crestmore Place (near Fort Collins City Park). Current Senior Pastor, Kevin McGinley and wife Cindy began to attend Fort Collins Christian Center in 1982 after attending a missions trip to Fiji with Campus Crusade for Christ.

The church moved to 4036 South Shields in 1985 which remained it's location for 20 years until October of 2005. In 1989, Kevin came on staff as Associate Pastor and became Senior Pastor in 1993. Fort Collins Christian Center moved through changes including a name adjustment in 1996. The church was renamed "Fort Collins City Church," to reflect a vision to reach the city for Christ. City Church joined the newly formed "Fort Collins Church Network" in 2003. The Network is a partnering community of over 20 churches in Fort Collins that support and pray for each other and reach out to the city in various ways.

In 2005, Fort Collins City Church sensed the need to expand staff and brought Pastor Gary on. With an expectation and confirmation that God was leading, Fort Collins City Church changed it's name to "SouthGate Church" in June of 2005. Almost simultaneously, construction broke ground to build out the inside of the newly acquired church facility at College and Trilby.

The name and location reflect what the church believes to be a sovereign plan that God has, which involves being an entrance point into and a sending point for the Kingdom of God. The first service was held on October 2, 2005. With a rich heritage behind us, there is great expectation of God's continued kingdom mission to be alive and operating here.
