Hope and Truth
According to an ancient proverb, “There is a way that seems right to man, but its end is the way of death.” Today, there are many people searching for hope. Searching for answers is important and yet many people are not sure which answers are correct. With a variety of solutions, programs, answers and potential hope being offered in many sectors, one might ask, “where is real hope?”
Jesus Christ distances Himself from religion, because He offers more than just religious practice. Jesus Christ personally helped people with physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Jesus was very interested in personal relationships and sharing truth and hope with the people he encountered. He allowed Himself to be vulnerable to people and to share their grief. If you had met Him in the first century, you would likely admit that He seemed to offer something very unique.
Perhaps many people are concerned with truth as much as hope. Interestingly enough, both “truth,” and “hope” enjoy similar traits and descriptions. No matter one’s persuasion, each person has a core set of values or principles that they operate by. Many have realized though that there are conflicting opinions, views and lifestyles present today. People continue to seek for some answer or solution to life’s greatest and most difficult questions. Really they are looking for hope. They are seeking truth. Another ancient saying goes like this, “I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” Those words come from Jesus Christ, and He continues by sharing that if one would like to know God they must know Jesus first. The hope you are searching for, the truth you desperately look for is found in Jesus Christ.
Anyone can get some information about Jesus Christ by simply picking up current magazines, or surfing the internet. Whether all that information is accurate is arguable. People can understand things about Jesus Christ by simply attending religious services. However, the one thing that matters, that determines eternal life, is if one knows Jesus personally in a relationship. Why not let the Scriptures, the Word of God, explain it best?
The Human Situation
All people have a tendency to sin. People say, do and even think things that are wrong, that don’t please God. Humans are all born with a nature that is prone to sin. The book of Romans, chapter 3, verse 23 records, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Because of sin, each person is destined for separation from God. "For the wages of sin is death." (Romans 6:23) Furthermore, "To go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched." (Mark 9:43)
A Divine Answer
God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to save the sinful human race. Here is what Paul and John say respectively, "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8) Also, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever
believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
The Hope of the World
Jesus Christ is the Answer, He came to bring hope to all people and offers truth. He came to rescue you and me. "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’ ”(John 14:6) "But the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23)
The Choice
Every person who acknowledges their sinful ways, their need for Jesus Christ, and chooses to personally believe Jesus Christ died and rose for them can be saved. "That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved." (Romans 10:9-10,13)
If you wanted, you could be saved (new life and eternity with Jesus Christ) by praying right where you are and asking Jesus Christ into your heart:
"Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner. I need You. Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross for me and paid the penalty for all my sins, past, present and future. I believe that you arose from the grave for me. Lord, the best I understand, I am asking you to forgive my sin, come into my life, and be my personal Savior. I place my life into your hands and ask you to help me live for you from this day forward. Thank you for saving me Jesus."
